An open letter to Republican Leadership
I used to be one of you. I listened to Rush Limbaugh during the Clinton era, heck I even woke up at 7 years old worried to make sure Reagan got re-elected. I voted straight red on every election once I was old enough to vote. However, once Trump was the nominee I just couldn’t do it. I was disappointed in 2012 when the best you could come up with was Mitt Romney, Trump seemed like almost a comedic choice.
I was right. Trump was an absolute disaster to our country, internally and our reputation on the world stage. He will forever be remembered as the guy who used a mob of crazy people to scare others into doing what he wants, culminating in January 6th, 2021. Let’s not pretend it didn’t happen or it was peaceful. They injured and killed police officers, and wanted to hang the Republican vice president for doing his long established constitutional duty. For an ideology involving adherence to the law and reverence for law enforcement and the founding fathers, this showed that it was a thuggish, hellish mob with no direction except fealty to Donald Trump.
All of you were mad that evening after the national guard quashed the insurrection, and mad at the right person. As a short amount of time went by, however conspiracies and alternate history just as crazy as they themselves believe infected your speeches and decisions. Let’s be honest, Jake Angeli’s lawyer in an ableist rant said it best, “These people are f**ing short bus stupid”.
We all know the real facts. Nobody is eating children, there is no such thing as adrenochrome, school shootings hurt actual real children, there is no “plan” other than to keep people wound up. I believe our leadership knows this, does not believe in the conspiracies, and rode normal buses to school. And that is the main reason myself and a lot of other “crazy liberal commies” are mad at you. We are mad because you CAN help it, and you ARE NOT too stupid to know better. You just don’t want your own Jan 6 in your own home. As you have seen with other people who have side stepped or even been talked badly momentarily by Trump, the masses descended on them. Taking pictures of their children, harassing their family in short order. I know it’s scary, I know it seems like its just harmless story telling to keep your family safe.
Twenty years ago, if someone took pictures of a US Senators children and posted them on the internet and made threatening comments along with it, that person would be in Guantanamo learning Arabic and how to hold their breath underwater for extended periods, and that is why it rarely if ever happened. Today it’s expected and the worse they get is a 3 day ban on Facebook. Threatening an elected official and/or their family is a federal crime, a felony if I’m not mistaken. Pushing past police officers to wreck a federal building and stealing / trying to sell classified information is a really bad felony. They should be getting nailed in a public manner, and if not a US citizen placed on a known terrorist list so they can not enter the US. You have the tools to deal with these tools.
Every day this monster you created grows bigger. It cares not for the law, police, rational thought, and most of all, you. We are America, we are strong, and we have quashed threats and regimes home and abroad. Your oath of office was to protect the United States from enemies foreign and domestic. This mob that Trump whipped up is an enemy to the United States. The people on social media threatening your family are enemies. You can view them as they are as enemies, or as potential voters. Tip: You will always have their vote, they will never vote for anything besides R. You need to do your job and destroy this domestic monster your party has created and get back to work for the American people. I know it is scary, but we are stronger… for now. The time will come when there is no reality, and this monster will completely engulf this once great nation. When that happens, you can look in the mirror and see the one responsible.
Threatening an elected official is not protected speech, no matter what side of the aisle they are on. Trespassing, breaking and entering into a federal building is not a “peaceful tour group”. The country you got into politics to serve needs you now more than ever. Quit pandering to criminals, man (or woman) up, and do your job. I’m mad because I believe you have a brain and don’t believe in the craziness, but say what they want to hear so you’re not in the cross hairs. If you were too stupid to know the truth, I wouldn’t be mad just disappointed. But you know the truth and speak against it because you don’t want a fight, yet on the other hand block any legislation that comes to the floor just because of who it came from, not on its merits. You can fight, you do fight, you just need to fight the real enemy.
